Leave it to the More Than A Stance guys to make a little documentary about bboys and bgirls having fun that lets you know so much about what’s true to these legendary dancers.
It seems that even though no one makes the clear distinction, it’s not drive that propels these breakers to one of the biggest events in the world, but passion. It’s not about blind ambition, because that lacks soul, but it’s the true love of what they do that keeps them dancing and pushing themselves and everyone around them, and thereby elevating the art form.
And when you’re that passionate about something, hard work isn’t really hard work, and everyone’s just having a good time. That’s how you chill.
It’s hard not to like beer or liquor ads with bboying in them, if not for the fact that if those guys were drunk they’d hurt themselves (or others) so badly.
Good breakdown on real foundation from one of the pioneers of the dance; always good to keep in mind bboying is more than just trick-trick-trick, even if a lot of people approach it that way.
For a man who needs no introduction, that broom stick intro was pretty good.
And also gotta love hearing the guy tell his friend to go get a new tape, then you wonder why there’s a jump around 2:50, then you realize “oh, he was low on tape!”

Honestly, this is way less a breaksploitation take on bboying than I would have guessed before watching the clip. I didn’t have a lot of faith in ESPN to give bboying a fair shake, and I’m glad to be proven wrong.
Course, the whole “the world’s best bboys don’t just have soul, they’re from Seoul” was kind of rough.
